Day 79: No #1 For You

This is the fourth of eight days without a #1 during the project.  So let’s look back on another of yesterday’s #1 songs…

Song: “So Sick” by Ne-Yo
Reached #1: March 18, 2006 (his first, 2 weeks)

Why can’t he turn off the radio?

There’s some justice, I think, to the fact that a song about that love song you can’t turn off became a song that listeners couldn’t turn off.

Read that again, it’ll make sense.

I’m sure there aren’t too many R&B hits produced by a Norwegian production team – this one was.  It worked out so well that Ne-Yo continues to work with Stargate.

I’m sure there aren’t too many R&B videos set on a mountain range – this one was.

And it’s one we can all relate to – it’s a song about music as a reminder of someone… in this case, someone Ne-Yo broke up with.  Supposedly, it was inspired by a song that kept coming up on the radio a lot more after that breakup than it ever did before, but Ne-Yo has never let on which song it was.

Tomorrow, an artist who lived fast, died young, and continues to inspire musicians more than 40 years later…

No songs reached #1 on March 19.
