Song: “Live Your Life” by T.I. featuring Rihanna
Reached #1: October 18, 2008 (his second, 6 weeks)
While the feat of replacing yourself at #1 on the Billboard charts happens a bit, and even having the #1 and #2 songs at the same time isn’t unheard of, T.I. managed to up the ante in 2008 by having this song and “Whatever You Like” dancing back and forth at #1 during the fall of 2008 – with three top female singers each getting a chance to play…
It started with “Whatever You Like” hitting #1 on September 6 for 3 weeks. Pink then got a week with “So What”. T.I. took back #1 for 2 weeks with “Whatever”, then on October 18, this song got its first look at #1. Britney Spears then got a week at the top with “Womanizer”… then “Whatever” got its third run at the top (2 weeks), then “Live Your Life” got 4 more. Beyoncé got a week with “Single Ladies”, then “Live Your Life” spent its last week at the top… I’m sure Billboard’s number crunchers were exhausted keeping track of the changes…
At that, this wasn’t the most bizarre chart performance of T.I.’s career.
In 2010, T.I. was arrested on drug charges that were later dropped – but since he was already on probation from a weapons charge, he got to go back to jail for eleven months. While in jail, he released his No Mercy album, which promptly went to #1 on Billboard’s Hot 200 Album chart.
T.I. is currently focusing on his role as CEO of Grand Hustle Records, signing several artists to the label this year.
Tomorrow… an iconic video for a one-hit wonder…
